As an filmmaker and film and media theorist, I have a passion for consulting and speaking for individuals and organizations about the capacity for media to shape our ethical sensibilities in positive ways.
Most recently, for instance, I spoke with E.C. Timmer in a Masterclass for the Lake Stevens Film Festival called “Try Local: The Secret Power of Community Filmmaking,” in which we challenged the myth of the singular writer + director, considered the historical and contemporary possibility of local, collective community filmmaking instead.
I am also developing a series of public lectures based on my UC Santa Barbara course "Theories of Filmgoing and Mass Culture": a course that examines the power of public filmgoing to change mass culture for the better.
