Youth Group is a Dogme 95 style feature film about two best friend youth pastors navigating the surreal evangelical center of Orange County in 2007. As their small Presbyterian Church threatens to close due to the appeal of a neigboring megachurch, James and Van hatch a plan for the most unforgettable Jr. High All Nighter to convince families to stay at the church. However, the own varied faith journeys of James and Van lead to an unbridgable conflict between the two of them – and threaten to ruin the church and their friendship. Set in the bizzaro context of a mid-2000s Jr. High Youth Group (where the "craziest" fun was the "best" fun, and the best alternative to "secular" culture), Youth Group examines the strange relationship between faith, fun, and coming of age – and the possibility that the divine can break through all of the chaoes.
